So far this month, Sterling and Todd covered the very basics of cybersecurity, and that’s a great place to start. However, there’s a lot more to it. There’s so much that we can’t write enough blogs to convey all the information, so instead we wrote a 40-page guide called Cybersecurity Essentials for Business Owners. We talk about the threats businesses face, notable statistics (that can be helpful for evaluating your own company), the NIST Security Framework, and CIS Controls and Implementation. I know these terms may not mean very much to you yet, but they’re the fundamentals of cybersecurity. NIST is the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and their framework organizes and chronologizes major aspects of cybersecurity.
The CIS Controls are a list of 18 best practices that lay a solid foundation of cybersecurity including inventory, data protection, account management, audit logs, data recovery, etc.
I won’t bore you by writing too many more details; everything is in the booklet. Feel free to read through it, and if you want a physical copy, just email us at info@sterlingideas.com. We’re happy to put one in the mail to you. If these Controls seem like a foreign language to you, or you’re just too busy to implement them, call us. This is the language we speak, our area of expertise, and the passion of our team.
